Ladies and gentlemen, 

Welcome to Display Innovation CHINA 2019/ Beijing Summit!

This is the 10^th year of the FPD International CHINA/ Beijing Summit. Nikkei BP and CODA have worked hand in hand, sincerely cooperated with each other and worked hard for ten years to make this summit a high-level exchange platform for colleagues in the global industry to make collision of ideas, share opinions and promote cooperation. Thank BP and CODA for their efforts, and thank colleagues all over the world for their support! At present, the global display industry is in a difficult period with overcapacity, price falling and sluggish demand, and many enterprises are caught in operation difficulties. The more difficult it is, the more we need to keep awake and determined, and strengthen our confidence in the development prospects of display industry.

However, we must recognize the problems from the difficulties and find solutions.

In recent years, the fundamental problems in our industry are insufficient innovation and low-level overlapping investment, which result in overcapacity. This is the worry I have mentioned on many occasions in recent years. It is gratifying that a consensus has been reached in the industry at present and the situation has changed. I hope we can keep at it.

I always believe that innovation is the source power of industry development. If the display industry needs sustainable and healthy development, it must be driven by innovation, and there is no shortcut! For China’s display industry, it is more necessary to change from the scale-up type investment-driven mode to the quality improvement type innovation-driven mode. Everyone should devote their main energy and financial resources to technological innovation and application innovation, and to the construction of upstream and downstream ecological chains and collaborative innovation.

I hope that global partners can work together to seize the new opportunities of the 4^th industrial revolution and the development of AIoT industry, continuously research and develop new technologies and launch new products, ceaselessly expand new applications and new markets, jointly create new opportunities and jointly promote the healthy, stable and sustainable development of the industry.

I firmly believe that as long as we work together, insist on innovation-driven development, co-creation and win-win cooperation, we will certainly get out of the current predicament and usher in new vigorous development!

This year, “Display Innovation CHINA 2019/ Beijing Summit” welcomes its 10^th anniversary. In this memorable year, I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks to all the guests taking time out to attend the meeting. The first summit jointly held by Nikkei BP and CODA was in 2010 when the scale of China’s display industry was still small and the Chinese Government was preparing to devote greater effort to formally build the display industry. The first “6G Factory” producing large-size LCD panels for TV was also put into production in China in 2010.

In 2010, the center of the display industry was still in Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, and China’s production share was only in single digit. However, at present, China has faintly revealed the sign of becoming the world’s largest display producing country. With the enthusiasm of “letting the display industry take root in China and grow and develop continuously”, countless people of insight have worked cautiously and conscientiously, and finally made China’s display industry blossom beautifully.

In the past 9 summits, we witnessed the soaring of China’s display industry. Following the 6G factory in 2010, the 8.5G factory was also put into production in 2011. Later, huge large-size LCD panel factories blossomed all over China, and the world’s first 10.5G LCD panel factory also started mass production in 2018.

Besides production capacity, in terms of technical strength, China has also made great strides in this decade. At the famous Japanese exhibition in 2014, the 100-inch 8K panel made in China was exhibited, which also brought great impact to Japanese technicians. In addition to large-size panels, China has also made great progress in small and medium-sized panel technologies. In addition, Chinese manufacturers have already ranked the first in the world in the production share of high-definition LTPS LCD panels for smart phones, and now more large customers are considering purchasing flexible OLED panels made in China.

In this decade, China’s display industry has stood up on its own legs and grown into a towering tree. In the next decade, the development of the global display industry will depend on China which has become the center of the industry. “Cross the border barriers, brainstorm together and collaborate forward to jointly create the next decade of the display industry”. I sincerely hope that the display industry in China and the world can strive for further improvement!

Summary

With the joint efforts of various countries and regions in the world, the global display industry has developed rapidly. Especially in the last decade, the industrialization process of innovative technologies such as flexible foldable OLED and Micro-LED is accelerated, and innovative applications such as wearable devices, vehicle-mounted display, public display and VR/AR are constantly emerging. Display technology has been deeply integrated with the cutting-edge technologies such as IoT, big data and artificial intelligence, which brings important opportunities for transformation and upgrading of the whole industry.

In the key decade of industry development, Display Innovation CHINA 2019/ Beijing Summit (hereinafter referred to as DIC2019) co-organized by CODA and Nikkei BP, growing with the industry and making breakthroughs constantly, has become the largest benchmark business forum with the highest standard in the industry at present, built an exchange platform for China’s industry and global colleagues, and played an important role in promoting technological and application innovation of the global display industry.

In 2019, it is the key development period of the global display industry. In order to promote the sustainable development of the display industry, DIC 2019, adhering to the purport of “Cooperation, Innovation and Development” and themed by “Brainstorming Together and Collaborating Forward”, will be held in Crowne Plaza Beijing Lido on October 22^nd-23^rd. The Summit in this year will continuously keep the characteristics of high-end internationalization and professional authority. It is planned to invite dozens of lecturers, including globally renowned experts and scholars, global main panel manufacturers, important equipment and material supporting manufacturers and new display technology innovative enterprises, etc. to exchange insights, brainstorm together and collaborate in innovation to jointly promote the development of the global display industry. During the meeting, we will arrange a series of commemorative activities for DIC’s 10^th anniversary and a post-meeting special visit to the latest production lines of BOE, CSOT and Tianma in Wuhan for technical exchange. DIC2019 will be brilliant, at which the participants of industry development can reminisce about the past, talk about the future and create brilliant innovations together!
