Cooperation, innovation and development are eternal themes in the process of global economic growth, and are also the only way for FPD industry to develop continuously.

China has become an important base of the global FPD industry. As of the end of 2011, in China’s FPD industry, 12 production lines of above 4.5G, including two 8.5G lines, have been put into production, and there are also 8 high-generation lines under construction and in plan, which will exceed 20% of the global production capacity after mass production of all these lines. It has covered all product specifications of the whole series from 2 inches to more than 55 inches, basically changing the supply and demand pattern of large and medium-sized display screens all relying on import, the proportion of material localization has been greatly increased, and the localization degree of equipment has also been improved to some extent. China’s FPD industry is entering a critical stage of “changing from weak to strong”.

Drawing lessons from the development of the world economy, getting close to the market, strengthening cooperation, promoting the localization progress and cooperation on the basis of continuously improving the cooperation and exchange mechanism, and organizing more targeted exchange activities are necessary measures to promote the growth of FPD industry in such a new base like China.

To this end, on the basis of successfully holding the FPD International CHINA 2010/ Summit and Seminar and FPD International CHINA 2011/ Beijing Summit, CODA cooperates with Nikkei BP to hold the FPD International CHINA 2012/ Beijing Summit for the 3^rd time. We believe that this international high-end forum will effectively promote international, regional and inter-enterprise exchanges and cooperation, and facilitate the innovative development of the global FPD industry.

With the development of economic globalization, all industries have entered a new era of common innovation. One of the leading successful cases is the retail industry. For example, the number of overseas stores of hypermarket chains in Japan is said to have exceeded the total number of stores in Japan in 2012. Through the cooperation with overseas local enterprises, the difficulties of building logistics network and talent recruitment have been overcome, and the industry is expanding the market to the whole world. This development trend is also shown in high-tech industry. The FPD industry is one of the cases.

Cooperation beyond national boundaries and geographical restrictions once also appeared in the FPD industry. However, most of the cooperation between Japan and China is just that the developed countries move their production bases to the developing countries in order to reduce the production cost of mature products whose income and expenditure are unbalanced. In the new era of innovation, cooperative enterprises can create and provide high-end products for global businesses to develop new markets by giving full play to their respective strengths.

The emphasis in this process is innovation. Electronic machines that can bring great changes to people’s life style and working form are produced through technological reform, so we can expect further growth of the FPD industry. Like China, which has huge domestic demand, or South Korea and Taiwan, which have great productivity, the role of Japanese manufacturers with strong technical capability is also increasing.

In this environment, we hold the 3^rd FPD International CHINA/ Beijing Summit together with CODA. We believe that the topics and discussions in this conference will promote industrial exchanges among various countries and regions, and the development of the global FPD industry.
